Shaw + Smith Shiraz

Grape: Shiraz
Region: Adelaide Hills
Vintage: 2015
Alcohol: 12%

Style: Big, Luscious

Formed by cousins Martin Shaw & Michael Hill-Smith MW, Shaw+Smith has gone on to be the doyen of the Adelaide Hills. This exceptional Shiraz illustrates why the Shaw + Smith wines are multi-award winners. A medium-bodied red, it demonstrates the beauty in balance over power. Fresh red berries including raspberry and blueberry are flavoured with notes of clove and black pepper. The palate is long and layered with elegantly fine grained tannins. Pair it with a wagyu burger with bacon, gruyere cheese and pickle.

2015 was a remarkable vintage. Above average winter rainfall ensured a good start to the growing season and warm weather in late-December / early-January was moderated by useful rain on the 13th of January. The season concluded with mild, steady conditions and delivered fruit of wonderful quality to the winery. Drink now or cellar for up to 15 years for a deeper concentration of flavours.

‘The best shiraz yet under this label: deliciously intense with blood-plum, raspberry, black-cherry aromas with pepper and spice nuances. Marvellous richness and a soft-textured palate that is fruit-driven, with barely perceptible oak.’
